Watch Billboard’s official countdown of the Hot 100 top ten dated 10 October, the week Taylor Swift placed several new entries — including Babylon, Pink Clouding, Cleveland! and Patient Zero — inside the tier at once, Olivia Rodrigo returned with Stupid Song, and Ella Langley, Morgan Wallen, Ariana Grande and Stella Lefty held their ground through the surge.
The countdown is the chart’s argument in miniature. Event-release listening floods the first week with an entire album ranked by curiosity; the professional question, which next week answers, is which titles survive the normalisation that follows. Rodrigo’s climb and the country contingent’s hold, earned at streaming pace rather than opening pace, are the performances chart-watchers trust.
Billboard’s rundown gives each placing its context as it counts. Our entertainment desk’s full reading of the chart — and what to watch when the second-week numbers land — accompanies this video in today’s lineup.
Note, in the countdown, which titles the audience is expected to know unintroduced. The Hot 100 at event-week scale doubles as a census of what the streaming public currently treats as common knowledge — this week, overwhelmingly, one artist’s new album and the small company of songs that refused to be swept aside by it.
