Lendy's Deli in Saugus closes after almost 40 years
Press Releases

Lendy’s Deli has closed after almost 40 years on Route 1 in Saugus.

In a Facebook post, the restaurant announced its closure and thanked its customers for their loyalty and support over the years.

“For nearly 40 years, Lendy’s has been a part of the fabric of the Saugus community,” the post reads. “It was a place where families gathered for Sunday brunch, where regulars showed up daily to spill tea with their favorite wait staff, and where lifelong bonds were formed among customers and staff alike.”

The post added that the deli’s regular customers were members of its extended family, and that those relationships made the restaurant special.

“Together we shared many meals, but more importantly we shared our lives, celebrating the triumphs and mourning the tragedies together,” the post reads. “Although we were unable to say a proper good-bye, please know we love each and every one of you. Your presence in our daily lives will be what we miss the most.”

The post received a number of comments from people describing how they will miss the restaurant. Some of them, like Kate Delaney, said working there was their first job.

“Thank you for letting so many of us grow up there as our first jobs that we kept forever. Spent more than half my life working there and couldn’t be more thankful,” Delaney wrote. “We didn’t only have the best coworkers but we had the best customers. They genuinely cared for us as did we for them.”

Lendy’s first opened in 1985 and was owned by Leonard and Linda Dercolo, according to a Saugus Advertiser article from 2010.

Representatives from the restaurant did not respond to a request for comment.
